Tame Impala – Mind Mischief (Video Breakdown)

Tame Impala recently released the music video for Mind Mischief, a psychedelic track from their sophomore album Lonerism. Following the sentiment of the album’s cosmic psych-rock sound the Mind Mischief video takes viewers on a daytrip through the mind of a bored-stiff student, entering into a cosmic dreamworld full of sex, drugs, and Tame Impala.

Embracing everyone’s favourite highschool fantasy, director David Wilson took inspiration straight from Mind Mischief in order to come up with the short but explosive storyline.

“The inspiration for the video came directly from the bass line. As soon as I listened to that bass line, well the guitar riff at the beginning of the song, I imagined this bum walking down the corridor.”

As he explains below, rather than explore the raw physical intimacy of the student’s dream, Wilson chose to expose an adventurous and emotional aspect of the encounter through animation. The effect pairs well with Mind Mischief’s sound, creating a cosmic scene driven by imagination and impulse.

Anyone else wish they had gone to David Wilson’s version of private school?
