Damien Hirst “Mickey” & “Minnie” Prints

British contemporary artist Damien Hirst explores pop culture for his latest series of silk-screened prints.

Famed British artist Damien Hirst playful reimagines Disney’s beloved Mickey and Minnie Mouse characters in his latest series of silk screened prints. Hirst is widely recognised as one of the most influential artists of his generation his art tends to explore the complex relationship between art, life and death.

This print sees Hirst playfully reimagine Mickey Mouse as one of his iconic series of spot paintings. In offering his own interpretation of Disney’s best-loved characters, Hirst follows in the footsteps of artists including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Claes Oldenburg. He explains: ‘[They] represent happiness and the joy of being a kid and I have reduced the shapes down to the basic elements of a few simple spots…’ ‘It is still instantly recognisable because Mickey is such a universal and powerful icon.’
