Sasquatch 2014 In Review: Sunday, May 25th

After one long day in the van and three obligatory days of rest Kevin Vanstone is back to review the best of the 2014 Sasquatch Music Festival. From Black Joe Lewis to Portugal. The Man Sunday at Sasquatch was a continuous party all the way to the end sending fans away in style.

tUnE-yArDs

Flanked by a small supporting cast Merrill Garbus put on another sensational show at Sasquatch as the crowd gazed on at the wonderful display onstage and the gorge beyond. Garbus, a Sasquatch veteran, was so impressive in her return to the gorge she earned a song dedication from Elbow’s Guy Garvey who later said his mind was blown by the performance. Having seen tUne-yArDs perform at Sasquatch in years previous my mind wasn’t quite blown, however it was another solid performance from one of music’s most uniquely talented musicians.

Black Joe Lewis

Black Joe Lewis provided one of the most pleasant surprises of the festival whipping the crowd into a frenzy on the final day. Spectators everywhere could be heard shouting the praises of Black Joe’s tight guitar play and the soothing sounds of The Honeybears behind him. The set was brimming with soul and fire the whole way through as fans moved their feet to the band bouncing along behind their fearless frontman.

Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi provided another pleasant surprise on Sunday soaring through a collection of hits to a loving Sasquatch main stage packed with fans. Cudi reminisced about his first appearance at Sasquatch but remained on task, delivering a sharp set with the unbridled enthusiasm fans have learned to love him for. Closing with his own version of “Pursuit Of Happiness” followed immediately by Steve Aoki’s up-beat remix Kid Cudi conquered the Gorge Amphitheatre once again, giving the crowd another show to remember on the festival’s final day.

Portugal. The Man

Sunday’s strong finish continued with Portugal. The Man as the band scorched through a fantastic night set highlighted by an emotional rendition of “People Say” and a brief cover of Pink Flloyd for good measure. While Queens Of The Stone Age were considered the representatives of hard rock on the festival’s final day Portugal. The Man passed the torch with authority.
